The Betlem is located on the corner of Carrer Girona and Carrer Consell de Cent. The history of this unique shop, La Miscel·lània, goes back to 1892, and has changed ownership four times in its 100+ year history.

After having managed the Betlem as a traditional shop for five years, owner and Chef Victor Ferrer has decided to transform this emblematic establishment into a tapas bar (gastrobar), while taking pains to maintain its unique original character.

The ‘Gastro-tapa’ is the new trend in dining to recently experience an enormous upsurge in popularity and it is the basic principle that eating well doesn’t need to be expensive. With quality ingredients and careful preparation, dishes can be both satisfying and eminently affordable. This everyday tapas bar aspires to embrace the essential principle, and though it’s less formal than a full-scale restaurant, it’s able to offer delectable dishes that are culinarily advanced and prepared with high-quality products selected by the chef and competitively priced.

In addition, the Betlem-Miscel·lània Gastronòmica features a wine cellar for wine enthusiasts, with a range of vintages available by the glass, by the bottle, and to bring home with you.

We embrace the “slow food” philosophy, the inverse of the fast-food trend that’s unfortunately very popular in most developed countries. Luckily, “slow food” has always been at the heart of the Betlem. We source our ingredients locally, because food tastes better when it hasn’t had far to travel. This manner of sourcing ingredients is at once environmentally friendly, economically sustainable, and most importantly, delicious, since locally grown ingredients are naturally imbued with the inimitable authentic flavors of our immediate surroundings.
