FC Barcelona’s stadium is an absolute must-see for any soccer fan.
The football stadium of FC Barcelona, officially known as Estadio Camp Nou and popularly known simply as Camp Nou, is Europe’s largest football stadium, and the fifth largest in the world, with capacity for 99,354 spectators.
The site dates back to the early 1950s, when the capacity at the old Camp de Les Corts was overcome by two factors: the rapidly rising popularity of soccer in Spain, and the 1951 arrival of Ladislao Kubala.
The official inauguration was held on September 24, 1957, and was one of the highest ranked by the UEFA.
The name of the stadium was originally planned to honor the club’s founder, Joan Gamper, but in the face of opposition from the authorities at the time, the club instead opted for a more neutral title: Stadium of the Football Club of Barcelona. It was not until 2001 when then-president Joan Gaspart convened a meeting among members, in which the majority voted to officially rename the stadium Camp Nou.
Among Camp Nou’s various facilities are the official headquarters of FC Barcelona, as well as the Club’s administrative offices and Museum, the most highly visited in all of Catalonia.
The stadium is one of Barcelona’s most famous enclaves, and without a doubt one of the best spots in the world to watch a good football match and experience the heightened emotions of the world’s favorite sport.
