Rosalía concert in Barcelona

The prophet in her own land. That’s how one might describe the Catalan singer Rosalía, as she closes out her El mal querer world tour with a series of concerts in her native Spain. The first will take place in Barcelona’s Palau Sant Jordi, on December 7th; and another was scheduled for Madrid’s Wizink Center on the 10th. But in light of the overwhelming demand expressed for tickets soon after the shows were announced, a third show was arranged, also in Barcelona’s Palau Sant Jordi, on the evening of the 8th. And even then, event tickets were completely sold out in less than ten minutes.

With two performances in our city, Rosalía closes out her El mal querer world tour, celebrating an album that’s been on the market for barely a year, but has turned the singer into a music icon the world over, while earning her some of the most prestigious accolades from the industry, with two MTV Music Video Awards for Con Altura and two Latin Grammys for Malamente, the hit that first put her on the map.

The remarkable career of this young Barcelona-born singer is one of the most impressive success stories in recent music history. Although she’s been practicing and performing for her entire life, it wasn’t until June of 2018 that she played to a sizable audience. That special show just happens to have also taken place in Barcelona, at the Sonar festival. She performed El mal querer, introducing a new visual, audio, and theatrical concept that was absolutely unlike anything that came before it. She then went on to play at Primavera Sound, where she performed before an audience of 30,000. And since then, her rapid ascent into all-out stardom has turned her into a diva, and established her as a major influencer, through her music, her style, and her use of social networking sites, where she even received recognition from the one and only Madonna!
