One of the most classic paradigms of Catalonian Baroque style, this building homes a vibrant cultural program showcasing temporary exhibitions.
In the 18th century, Manuel Amat, viceroy of Peru, commissioned architect Josep Ribes to built this sumptuous Baroque palace in the heart of Barcelona. Following his premature death, the building was lived in by his widow, who gave it the name by which it goes today. Architecturally speaking, the design elements of this site are truly remarkable; its imposing, symmetrical front façade, the double stairwell in the interior patio, and the enormous windows are just some of its structural highlights.
Today, its rooms and patio are home to the Culture Institute of Barcelona (ICUB), and its generous halls host various temporary exhibitions, as well as presentations, conferences, literary and research events, and other activities that celebrate the city’s vibrant cultural activities.
